Today was an AWESOME day. Since I returned from Kentucky on Feb. 11th I have moved out of the apartment in Houston and back into my apartment in Huntsville... and I have to say while driving into Huntsville I breathed a sigh of relief like I was returning home after a 10 year absence and I knew I was home. Today was especially awesome because it was Sunday and I got to see my church families and friends once again and it was so reassuring and brought such a sense of Joy that I hadn't had in quite a while getting to shake everybody's hands, give everyone hugs and to hear "we missed you so much and we are glad you have come home." I am so incredibly thankful (and completely undeserving) of the people, friends and love the Father has put into my life.
Things to please be in prayer about: After church was over I got to meet a gentleman who could possibly have access to a couple full-time job opportunities in the Huntsville area. So, please pray that the Father would please guide this process and that I would be faithful to the promise of his provision.
Father, thank you so much for all the blessings you have placed into my life that I do not deserve in any way. Please help me to be a faithful servant to your cause and to always desire to seek and glorify you and your kingdom first. Thank you for all that you are and I cannot wait to experience what you have laid out before me. I love you. Amen.

Quick, early morning, update.
Hello!
Ok, its been a few days since my last post because the internet here is in and out and usually more out... For the last 2 days I have been working on a house that is on the property I have been staying at trying to help get it ready to be used as a bunk house for volunteers. Its in pretty decent shape and I basically just spent the whole time doing a lot of cleaning (vacuuming the floors and wiping down the walls). Still no news on when the insurance will come through, we are confident the Father has his reasons for holding it back, but it can still be frustrating at times cause we would def. love to get to work on preparing this space.
Last night I went to Bowling Green, KY for a night out and to see what it was like since I had never been there. Well, while I was in the movies it started snowing... and boy did it snow... by time I had eaten a quick meal at Chedders (about an hour) the roads were all 3"+ deep in snow and frozen over in places due to the freezing temperatures. The drive that originally took me a little under and hour took me over 2 hours to return due to times of zero visibility, all roads being shutdown to one lane each way and spots of 4x4 only travel making it a slow go (but a fun and intense one at that).
When we woke up this morning we awoke to 6"+ of accumulation at our location. When you walk outside it looked like a winter wonderland... it was actually quite awesome and I got to spend about an hour this morning walking around and taking a lot of pictures. Now the problem with all this beautiful snow is that we got more this evening, it is currently 18 degrees (roads have been plowed) and I am supposed to leave to return home to Texas in in the morning... yeaaa..... I still plan on leaving but I am going to have to wait until mid day tomorrow to begin my trip so the roads will have a few hours to thaw out. I appreciate your prayers for safe travel and good weather as I have a nearly 900 mile trip ahead of me. Here are some pictures I took this morning for you to enjoy because that is all for this evening/early morning.
Prayer Requests:
- For a heart that is sensitive to where the Father is leading me to go and eyes opened to see the path he has for me to follow.
- Safe travel for me (and all the other travelers out on the roads) Wednesday and Thursday.

Relaxing Day
Hello All,
Today was extremely relaxing. Here in Kentucky it was not only cold today but raining as well which put a damper on the work activities we were able to undertake so I was able to have a lot of time to reflect on things going on in my life and process thoughts in my head, catch up on some reading, talk with a couple of people who have been missionaries for 20-30 years and just enjoy some quiet time. I did finally get a chance to go over and walk around the school for a little while and check it out. Besides a few busted windows, a couple roof leaks and some pretty vulgar graffiti the school just needs a little TLC, sweeping and mopping and it will be in really good shape. The school is located right in the middle of a little town and it was really cool to be able to walk around and picture in my head what could lay ahead for this campus. The organization plans to use the location not only to house and educate orphans from Haiti but also as a Headquarters, Disaster Training Center, Community Center, Volunteer and Missionary short term Lodging, and Equipment Storage because God's Kitchen Inc. is still a Disaster Response and Relief ministry first.... It was a really exciting time... even though it was FREEZING!!! Lol.
We still have no news on the liability insurance, and from the news received today its looking like Monday could possibly be the earliest we might have an answer which also means no possibility of work starting on the campus itself until Monday. Apparently Kentucky passed some legislation that makes the insurance business here really tough/difficult and a lot of companies have just completely pulled out and stopped offering their services here... leaving us in a bit of a bind due to the special type of insurance we require for this type of project. Please be in prayer on this issue, because it is ESSENTIAL for this project to move forward and we/I are confident that the Father is moving and will provide.
Despite the cold, I am really enjoying being in Kentucky and I continue to feel the tug on my heart (through prayer and conversation) and could definitely see myself returning for an undetermined amount of time (2 weeks, 2 months, i have no idea...) once we are able to get into the school and start working and be a part of the long term team helping to bring this to life. I LOVE the people I am meeting here, they are some of the most dedicated, devoted and on-fire servants of Christ that I have ever met... and they are really wise in their advice and counsel. Please keep me in your prayers that I will have ears to hear where the Father is telling me he wants me and eyes to see open and closed doors he has in my path. I will have to admit, I am a little excited about the snow chances that lay ahead in the coming days (and before anyone warns me, yes I will be VERY careful when/if I drive in it... I know you care and thank you) even though it means wearing more layers at all times. Haha.
I think that is all for now. I hope all is well for you and I thank you for taking time to keep yourself updated with what is going on in my life.
Standing in HIM,
Garrett

Let's get this thing started!
Hello everyone,
An update or a run down, depending on what you know. My name is Garrett Roberts. I graduated from Sam Houston State University in May of 2009 and quickly found out that the Father had other plans for my life than I did when I was unable to get a job in several different job markets. On December 30, 2009 I moved to Houston, Tx to serve in the missions department at First Baptist until I figured out where the Father was leading me. While serving there I received an email from an organization I had previously served with in Galveston after hurricane Ike, doing disaster relief, asking me to make a trip to Kentucky to check out their current project and the possibility of being a long-term missionary.
Currently:
I have been in Kentucky since Feb. 2nd and so far I am really enjoying it. Where we are staying is in the hills and is far away from highways, traffic and cell phone service (and at times internet... oh well, haha). I am working with an organization called God's Kitchen Inc. and they are a non-profit, believer based disaster relief organization born in the wake of hurricane Katrina. Their current project is an abandoned high school campus that they hope to turn into their headquarters, disaster training center, distribution center and God willing, an orphanage/school for Haitian children. When work starts I will have a chance to utilize my skills and training in construction and the remodeling of the school house and grounds and (if I feel the father leading me to longterm ministry here) eventually have a chance to work with and care for the orphaned children from Haiti (that some are calling the leftovers). At the moment we are praying for the liability insurance to come in and go into effect because until this process is completed no one (longterm volunteers or short-term volunteer teams) can work on the campus and prepare it for the arrival of what the Father has planned. While not being able to work on the school I have been able to work on smaller projects such as cleaning out and hosing down the mobile kitchen and related equipment that just returned from Greensburg, Kansas after serving meals to disaster relief and FEMA volunteers for 8 months and I have also been able to spend a lot of time talking with and learning from current long term members of God's Kitchen.
I guess that is all for tonight... This is my first attempt at a blog and I hope as time goes on I will be able to keep you updated with what is going on, how I see the Father moving and prayer requests.
In His Grace,
Garrett
